SUS Client Update Problems

By BlackDiamond ·
We have installed SUS and the server portion appears to be working, getting updates daily.

The clients do not work. We are using Active Directory and Group Policies to push updates out.

The PCs we are testing are in the Organizational Unit where the polices are defined.

Here is what occasionally shows up in the Windows Update.log. It has attempted to run twice over the past several weeks. Not sure why it has tried these times.

The systems that we are trying to update are Windows 2000 Pro SP4, tried with SP3 first but that did not work.

hummm I would use SUS to deploy updates to clients and have clients pull em from the SUS server rather than pusing updates out via group policy software installation distibution points. much easier to get to work.

note: the windows update automatically keep windows up to date needs to be unchecked when you run SUS and then Windows update configured to pull approved updates from the SUS server.

Hey,

That is the way we have it setup. Bad wording on my part. The workstations are supposed to pull the updates, but they do not.

The above is the contents of the Windows Update.log

D.R. is right
You have to configure your SUS to download and approve the updates.... #!....but you must also Configure your workstations to update from your SUS server by group policy or local policy. These workstations should have W2k with service pack 4 on them (and configured..updates added to administration in computers (policy)) or XP stations to receive these updates. Disable your "push" . That is why the errors. They are trying to all download from microsoft.

Hey,

The server portion is working, it is downloading daily and there are updates that have been approved for clients to download. I am not sure why they are trying to download from Microsoft and not the server.

Win200 Pro SP4 is the way the test workstations are configured.

Thanx
