The application failed to start error.

Hi,
I recently downloaded Microsoft Flight Simulator X:Steam Edition. When I tried to run the game, it came up with the following error: The application failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Following some guides, I installed Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable and rebooted my computer. However, it still did not work. Another guide suggested changing some registry settings, but I couldn’t find the specific registry files on my computer. I run Windows 10 Pro. Please help!

I googled the title you mentioned. I found https://store.steampowered.com/app/314160/Microsoft_Flight_Simulator_X_Steam_Edition/

It said it is from 2006, and they sell it for 24,95 euro. The system requirements say it runs on Windows XP SP2, but somewhere in the text I read the updated version has Windows 8.1 support.

I’d contact the shop about running in Windows 10, if that’s not explicitely mentioned in the user manual. Or try to run it on your Windows 8.1 PC.

I meant to say: contact the shop or the customer service that is mentioned in the documentation or manual of what you downloaded or the customer service of Steam.

Hi, I tried to run it in compatibility mode for windows 8.1, but that didn’t work. As to trying to run it on an 8.1 PC, I unfortunately don’t have one. I searched up the game’s compatibility for Windows 10, and most sources say it should be compatible.

Give a try to sfc and dism.
See if they find anything.

As in, many others have complained about this one.

1. The OS was an upgrade and not clean install.
2. VC++ versions.
3. -> Best find there was the game appears to be working when it was installed on another drive other than the one that has Windows.

LET ME BE CLEAR. There are thousands of complaints about this game title version and that error. Not once was there a “DO THIS” fix.
