Upgrading to Windows 10 from PC running on Windows 8.1 enterprise

Hi! So I have an old Acer PC that I use to work from home. The PC is running on Windows 8.1 enterprise and I’m not exactly sure what that means. My job recently told me I had to upgrade to Windows 10 I tried downloading it I saw it was free, but it failed. I think it said something about the language or tool but I’m not sure. So I was wondering if someone could explain to me what I have to do to be able to actually download it, if possible, since its for work use and im not so good with computers so I have no idea what I need to do or if it’s even possible to download with my current version. I would really appreciate the help. Thank you in advanced!

Without knowing what exactly you downloaded from where, what you did after downloading and what error you exactly got, it’s impossible to say what you did wrong.

But https://www.cnet.com/tech/services-and-software/how-to-download-windows-10-for-free-now-that-windows-7-is-dead/ tells why it probably went wrong: the free version is not meant to upgrade an enterprise version of Windows. Enterprises have other ways to do it.

I assume you can’t ask the IT department of the enterprise that installed it long ago to help you now. And, depending on the unknown history of this PC, it could even be a cracked version and that can’t be upgraded either.

So the 2 ways out of this situation, after asking the IT support desk of your work if it’s OK to have the Home version or you need the Pro version:
– buy Windows 10 and install it on this PC
– buy another PC that already has Windows 10

Those Enterprise versions have other upgrade paths. Kees answer is the best!
