WiFi Issue

By rmessier ·
I have a customer that has Compaq tablet laptop running XP Pro SP3 (Tablet Edition) that the Wi-Fi only connects to the Internet at their place of business. When out anywhere it connects to the Wi-Fi services ok, but can never get Internet to work. I have tried disabling the firewall(s) (Both Comodo and the windows firewalls) even in the public places (Starbucks) it connects ok, but no Internet access.
I have the laptop configured to obtain a IP Address and DNS Server automatically and it does that ok, but still will not connect to Internet. Under the advance tab there are not any DNS Suffixes. But what is interesting when I pull up the status of the connection the SENT number of bytes increase but RECEIVED doe not.

Does anyone have any suggestions any assistance would be appreciated.

You need to create a Table of WiFi Profiles

For this and change between them for different Hot Spots.

At a guess I would say that the WiFi Card is sending the Security protocols and as it's not getting a suitable response the unit is not accepting any other incoming Connections.

Look at the WiFi Card Makers Software here and see how it needs to be configured the Intel ones allow several Different User Profiles to be established for different WiFi Access Points. You then need to switch between the different user profiles to get the desired connection with the Business one being the Secure One.
