I’ve been using Zoho products for years, and I have often found them to be ahead of the curve in terms of features and functionality. Subsequently, when I started poking around Zoho Projects, I was not in the least surprised that the platform was perfectly capable of supplanting my go-to tools for project management.

One aspect of Zoho Projects that gives it the edge is its customizability. Even within each view, you can alter the layout to match the workflow you need. Case in point: The tabs at the top of the window. These tabs allow you to quickly switch between Dashboard, Tasks, Gantt & Reports, Documents, Milestones, Timesheets, Issues and Users.

But what if you don’t use all those views? What if there are other views you’d like to access regularly? For that, Zoho still has you covered. With a few clicks, you can customize what tabs you see in your Workspaces. Let me show you how easy this is to customize so you can make your experience with Zoho Projects even more efficient.

What you’ll need to customize your Zoho Projects tabs

In order to make these changes, you’ll need a valid Zoho Projects account. You can use either the free or paid version, as this customization is available to both. With your account at the ready, let’s customize.

How to customize your tabs in Zoho Projects

Log in to your Zoho Projects account and navigate to the Workspace you want to customize. On that page, you should see the row of tabs near the top (Figure A).

Click the three-dot menu to the right of the tabs and, from the pop-up (Figure B), click Organize Tabs.

In the resulting pop-up (Figure C), you can enable or disable the different tabs for both Portal Users and Client Users. You can also update the selection for only the current projects or all projects you create in the future.

If you click on the Client Users tab, you’ll see that there are fewer options (Figure D).

The Client Users tab has fewer options than the Portal Users tab.

Why the difference?

  • Portal Users: Team members.
  • Client Users: External users your team works with.

You certainly don’t want your Client Users to have access to timesheets and users, because that’s information they don’t need.

Make your selections and click Save. You should immediately see that the View Tabs option only shows what you need to see and nothing more.

A more efficient workflow

That’s all there is to improve your workflow in Zoho Project. This isn’t a massive change, but anything that helps you work smarter should be looked upon as a net positive change. Customize your tabs in Zoho Projects and enjoy a more efficient workflow.
