Databricks is putting more than US$350 million behind its next phase of growth in Singapore.

Over the next three years, the data and AI company plans to more than double its local workforce from more than 250 employees to over 500, expand its technical team, and move into a much larger Asia-Pacific and Japan headquarters. The investment strengthens Singapore’s role as a regional base for enterprise AI deployment.

The commitment forms part of a wider Asian expansion. Databricks plans to invest more than US$1 billion across Asia over three years after its regional business more than doubled in the second quarter, according to The Wall Street Journal.

The timing also reflects a broader APAC challenge: AI spending is rising faster than many companies can demonstrate returns. A recent KPMG survey found only 5% of regional companies had established ROI backed by demonstrated business outcomes, increasing pressure to move AI projects beyond experimentation.

Databricks builds out its Singapore technical base

Databricks plans to grow its Singapore headcount from more than 250 employees to over 500 within three years. The workforce will move into a 32,000-square-foot office at IOI Central Boulevard Towers in November 2026, quadrupling its current footprint, according to The Straits Times.

Its technical team will also grow from more than 100 employees to over 200, including forward-deployed engineers, field engineers, and product specialists working with customers on AI deployments.

Singapore already serves as Databricks’ APJ headquarters, so the hiring adds regional implementation capacity rather than simply expanding a sales office. That comes as nearly half of Singapore employers identify adopting or expanding AI as a 2027 workforce priority, showing how AI is moving deeper into corporate planning.

Databricks is also working with Singapore’s Economic Development Board and Infocomm Media Development Authority to train 20,000 people in data and AI skills over three years, The Business Times reported.

A four-month startup accelerator launching in November 2026 is expected to support more than 100 early-stage AI companies over three years.

Singapore investment targets APAC AI deployments

Databricks says the additional technical staff will help customers move AI projects from pilots into production, particularly in financial services, healthcare, and manufacturing. Simon Davies, the company’s senior vice president and APJ general manager, said the goal is to bring customers’ “most impactful AI use cases from pilot to production.”

For APAC IT leaders, having more engineering capacity inside the region can shorten the distance between vendor expertise and local deployments. Data rules, infrastructure, skills, and regulatory requirements vary significantly across Southeast Asia, while Singapore is simultaneously pursuing deeper AI and digital integration with regional partners.

The next test comes as Databricks carries out the expansion through 2029: whether its larger Singapore engineering base translates into more production AI deployments across APAC. The US$350 million commitment puts Singapore at the technical center of that regional push, not merely the commercial one.
