Ever tried comparing a few budget scenarios in ChatGPT, only to type a new question each time a number changes? GPT-6 Intelligent UI aims to make that back-and-forth easier with adjustable charts, calculators, and forms.
OpenAI began rolling out GPT-6 Intelligent UI on October 7, allowing ChatGPT to create interactive answers inside a conversation. Users could adjust savings contributions, explore a diagram or change stops on a trip map without asking for another complete response. The rollout began with Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise, with expansion to Free and Go starting October 8.
ChatGPT answers become interactive tools
OpenAI said GPT-6 can arrange text, graphics, buttons, charts, and forms into interactive responses. No special prompt is required, although users can ask ChatGPT to create a tool for a particular task.
The company provided several examples of how Intelligent UI can work:
| Split a dinner bill | Calculator that divides the total |
| Explore savings | Calculator with adjustable amounts |
| Understand a concept | Interactive diagram with selectable parts |
| Plan a road trip | Map showing stops and possible detours |
For someone comparing household budgets or project costs, the advantage is the ability to change a figure and see an updated result. Instead of writing a separate prompt for each scenario, users can explore multiple possibilities within the same conversation.
GPT-6 starts replying before it finishes thinking
OpenAI built Intelligent UI using native, streamable components and a compiler that displays the interface as GPT-6 generates it. ChatGPT can also begin answering while continuing to reason, adding information across successive responses.
In an announcement on OpenAI’s Developer Community, the company said GPT-6 Instant began answering web search questions 44% sooner, on average, than GPT-5.6 Instant. Crucially, the figure measures the time until a response begins, not the time it takes to complete the entire answer.
OpenAI also reported improvements in deciding when to search and finding information supporting an answer. Those are company-reported results rather than independent performance measurements.
For someone researching software options or comparing products, seeing results sooner could make it easier to start reviewing information while ChatGPT continues to respond. However, the 44% figure does not tell us whether the complete answer or an interactive chart is ready any sooner.
Rollout depends on plan, device, and thinking effort
OpenAI’s October 7 announcement listed Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise as the first plans receiving the update, with expansion to Free and Go scheduled to begin October 8. Enterprise access can depend on administrators’ settings. The release applies to ChatGPT’s Chat experience, not the models powering Work or Codex.
According to OpenAI’s Help Center, Intelligent UI works on the web and supported updated apps when GPT-6 uses Instant through Extra High thinking effort. It is unavailable at Pro effort and in older macOS and Windows desktop apps. It has no separate usage quota, although existing model, tool, and plan limits remain.
Users who want to try Intelligent UI should check that they’re using a supported app version and thinking-effort setting. Those who prefer fewer visual responses can turn off “Layout and visuals” in the web settings, although OpenAI says this does not guarantee text-only answers.

What users should check before relying on Intelligent UI
OpenAI is still refining when GPT-6 generates interactive tools and plans to support more types of interfaces. Not every question will produce a chart or form, even when one might be useful.
For IT teams, one way to test the feature is to compare hypothetical software subscription costs. A calculator could help show how monthly expenses change as the number of users increases, giving teams a starting point before reviewing actual vendor quotes.
However, interactive answers still need to be checked for accuracy. Users should verify the figures, calculations, and assumptions, particularly when comparing costs or making business decisions. They should also follow company policies before entering sensitive information.
For now, the biggest advantage is being able to compare different options without sending a new prompt each time. The results can serve as a starting point for further research, rather than a final answer.
