handeld scanners

By mark ·
Has anyone had any experiance sucess with scanning information off of files with some type of handheld scanner and importing that information into a format suitable for download to a spreadsheet? For instance Medical Records information, patient ID, Date of Birth Med Rec # etc. what type of scanner do you use?

How about a business card scanner.

by bsmith523 In reply to handeld scanners

There are scanners for business cards that will do something similar to what you want. I don't know if you can get the info you want onto a business card size piece of paper but it might be worth trying.

I've also heard of a pen scanner. It is the shape of a pen and has a scanning head on the tip. You basically roll the pen over the text you want and it scans it in using OCR. Not sure what software comes with it but you can probably find standard off the shelf programs that can format scanned information into a spreadsheet.

Omnipage

by ozi Eagle In reply to How about a business card ...

Hi,

My Canon flatbed scanner came bundled with Omnipage, an OCR scanner, that nicely formats columns suitable for a spreadsheet. I recently had to enter financial data from bank statements to a spreadsheet and it worked well, albeit with some manual editing.

From the deep dark reaches of memory I think my original handheld scanner also came bundled with this.
