I have windows XP pro OS and I have never experienced this problem before it anyone can help please I need it.
I recently started having this problem. One day I was downloading a game client off download.com and after the the client finished (never got around to installing it though) I also updated my Java and installed open-office. I used my up to date AVG AV to scan both files (the game client and open-office) and both were clean and also did an ad-aware scan to make sure.
Here’s where my problem starts. Not long after acquiring both of these programs did my monitor start to flash repeatedly as if it was turning off. It would then hang or not turn on at all and I would have to restart my computer. upon doing a restart right after the windows screen (with the blue loading bar at the bottom) went by my monitor would flash again and my screen would be black except for the cursor (which I could see and move) would show and there would be no login accounts that I could see.
I shut down my computer for sometime to think about this problem. After I started my computer back up again everything went smoothly and it was working fine. At that point I went to delete the programs I put on and first thing I right clicked on the programs my monitor flashed again and my computer required another restart.
The same thing happened again and so I left the computer off again to which point it had the same effect. Then I put my computer into safe mode (which worked perfectly) and uninstalled and deleted the files (the game I never even installed yet so I removed the client and searched for any other parts of it and deleted those too). I then continued with and AVG scan (with updated definitions files) and it found nothing and then an ad-aware scan (also with updated files) and it too found nothing of importance. My fire fox browser works fine (when the computer is working after being shut down) but if I right click, or open IE explorer my monitor will repeat its flashing and hang.
I will today try switching the monitors with other computers to see it thats the problem and I will eventually try a system restore point from a few weeks back as well.
If anyone can help me with the problem I would really appreciate it. Thank you
