Need simple inexpensive way of tracking document printing

By GAMCP ·
I need a simple solution that provides a way to search for specific file name that was printed and who printed the file at what time and date. I do not see an easy way to search for a file name thru Windows auditing.

Some info to get you started or give you an idea.

You can turn on "keep printed documents" in the printer properties.

Then you can scan the SHD files in the spool directory. The username, computername, and printjob name are in there. Unfortunately, they are spelled out every character seperated by a null character.

One caveat

If you do enable "Keep Printed Documents", keep an eye on your available drive space. If you don't regularly clean out the older files, you may fill your drive. I don't think Windows puts a size cap on this file.

I will try this and I appreciate the heads up on the space requirement. If any other options come to mind I would be greatful.
