Printer Responds to two SNMP Strings

The company for which I work manages many network printers. As a security concern we’ve been changing the SNMP strings to something other than the default ‘public’. But when testing their responses, it appears that they respond to both ‘public’ and what we changed the strings to. Why would this be and how do I stop it from responding to ‘public’?

Note — We do have to leave SNMP v1 enabled because it’s how we get our reads on our printers.
