Apple’s iOS 27 looks less like a redesign and more like a repair job with an AI engine bolted in.
The update, announced during Apple’s keynote, focuses on faster performance, broader Apple Intelligence features, a rebuilt Siri experience, and new controls for the Liquid Glass interface introduced in iOS 26. Apple says iOS 27 will support all iPhones currently running iOS 26, including the iPhone 11 lineup.
For users frustrated by last year’s bugs and readability complaints, the question is whether iOS 27 can make the iPhone feel faster, smarter, and less visually fussy without creating a fresh round of upgrade headaches.
Liquid Glass gets a much-requested fix
One of the most noticeable changes in iOS 27 builds on Liquid Glass, the interface design Apple introduced with iOS 26.
While the glass-inspired visual style introduced new animations and translucent elements throughout the system, some users complained that parts of the interface were difficult to read. Apple is now addressing that criticism by adding a new opacity slider that lets users adjust the intensity of the Liquid Glass effect.
The feature allows iPhone owners to control how transparent interface elements such as tab bars appear, giving users more flexibility over the look and readability of the operating system.
Siri gets a major rebuild
The main feature of iOS 27 is Siri AI, Apple’s most ambitious attempt yet to drag its virtual assistant into the era of conversational AI.
Apple says Siri AI is designed to be more conversational and context-aware. The assistant can understand what is currently displayed on a user’s screen and respond accordingly. It can also perform multiple actions in sequence and provide answers using personal context from emails, messages, photos, notes, and other content stored on the device.
Siri AI arrives with a dedicated app that stores conversation history and syncs interactions through iCloud. Apple has also redesigned the assistant’s interface, with responses appearing through the Dynamic Island at the top of the screen. Users will be able to customize Siri’s speaking pace and expressiveness through a new voice experience.

Apple Intelligence expands across the iPhone
Beyond Siri, Apple is weaving Apple Intelligence into more apps and services throughout iOS 27.
Safari gains AI-powered tools that can organize large collections of tabs and group related browsing sessions together. A new Notify Me feature can monitor web pages for changes.
The Passwords app can automatically update supported accounts with a single tap, while Apple is also introducing AI-assisted shortcut creation.
In Photos, Apple is expanding its AI editing tools. Users will be able to clean up images, extend photos, and reframe shots using generative AI capabilities. Apple is also updating Image Playground, its image-generation platform. The Camera app gains a Siri-powered mode that recognizes objects, provides information about them, and saves those interactions in the Siri app.
New safety features for families
Apple also devoted significant attention to privacy and child safety.
The company has redesigned Screen Time and introduced more advanced parental controls. Parents will be able to manage time allowances across app categories, pause device access, choose essential apps, control communications, and manage access to websites and applications.
Beta available now
Following the keynote presentation, Apple released the first developer beta versions of iOS 27 and its other operating systems, including iPadOS 27 and macOS 27.
Registered developers can begin testing the software immediately, while Apple plans to launch a public beta in July. The final version of iOS 27 is expected to arrive this fall, continuing Apple’s traditional Sept. release schedule.
