At nearly $2,000, a foldable phone has to be useful even when it stays closed.
Apple’s iPhone Duo and Google’s Pixel 11 Pro Fold approach that challenge differently. Starting at $1,999 and $1,899, respectively, both offer large folding displays, but their designs, cameras, and software create distinct experiences for everyday use.
Choosing between them comes down to how often you unfold your phone, what you want to accomplish on the larger screen, and which features justify the expense.

How we compared the iPhone Duo and Pixel 11 Pro Fold
This comparison draws on Apple’s iPhone Duo specifications, Google’s Pixel 11 Pro Fold specifications, software documentation, and US list prices. Manufacturer battery estimates use different testing methods and do not establish which phone lasts longer under the same workload. Prices exclude promotional discounts and trade-in offers.
How the iPhone Duo and Pixel 11 Pro Fold differ in everyday use
Both phones move between a conventional handset and a larger workspace, but their screen designs and software determine how that transition works in daily use.
Screen design and handling
The Duo’s shorter, wider cover screen provides greater horizontal space but displays fewer lines of content vertically. Apple’s foldable-specific iOS 27 interface moves certain navigation controls to the sides, freeing up space for content.
Its compact height reduces the vertical space it occupies in a pocket, although the broad body may feel unfamiliar to people accustomed to conventional smartphones. The rectangular inner display provides room to view a document alongside another application.
The Pixel’s taller 19.5:9 cover screen follows a more conventional smartphone layout, accommodating messages, webpages, and navigation. Despite its larger outer display, the device is narrower, thinner, and 15 grams lighter when folded.
Google uses a nearly square inner screen, giving side-by-side applications different proportions than on the Duo. Each window is relatively taller and narrower, changing how much content users can see at once.
Multitasking and application support
On the Duo, users can also open two windows of the same application, such as separate Safari pages. Apple details specialized layouts for Zoom and Slack, placing meeting content or conversations across the expanded display. Microsoft Word and Outlook enhancements are scheduled to add document formatting controls and inbox content alongside the material being reviewed.
The Pixel uses Android 17’s adaptive layouts and taskbar to manage applications as the phone opens, closes, or rotates. Its interface adjusts to the available display area, helping users work with apps and browser windows without repeatedly returning to the home screen.
Software and AI capabilities
The Duo runs iOS 27.2 with Apple Intelligence. Its upgraded Siri AI can use personal context from messages, emails, and supported applications, including information displayed onscreen. Users can retrieve details from previous conversations or ask for assistance with content they are viewing. Availability depends on language and region; Apple currently lists Siri AI as unavailable in the EU and mainland China.
The Pixel runs Android 17 with Gemini Intelligence. Its AI capabilities include retrieving flight details from Gmail, suggesting Calendar entries, and accessing information across connected services.
Gemini can also carry out certain multistep tasks in the background, including activities involving supported food delivery, grocery, and rideshare applications. Users can monitor or interrupt these actions without remaining in the application.
Cameras, battery life, and durability
The phones have different camera and charging capabilities, while their folding displays introduce additional considerations around construction and repair costs.
Camera hardware and photography
The Duo pairs 48MP main and ultrawide cameras, with a 2x optical-quality crop through its primary sensor. Its main camera also records 4K Dolby Vision video at up to 120 fps, offering flexibility for high-frame-rate recording and slow-motion footage.
The Pixel has three rear cameras, including a dedicated 5x telephoto lens for photographing distant subjects. It offers up to 30x Super Zoom and records 4K video at 60 fps, with Video Boost and Night Sight Video available for additional processing.
The foldables’ specialized tools handle different shooting situations.
| Automated photography | Smart Take captures photos when people are posing | Magic Capture identifies useful moments from a capture session |
| Children's photography | Kid Cue displays animations to attract children's attention | Made You Look uses animations on the cover screen |
| Outer-screen previews | Duo Preview lets subjects check their framing | Dual Screen Preview lets subjects check their framing on the outer display |
Battery life and charging
Apple rates the Duo for up to 44 hours of local video playback on its outer display, compared with 31 hours on the larger interior screen. Its typical-use estimate reaches 24 hours with usage divided equally between both panels. For charging, the device can reach 50% in approximately 20 minutes using a 60W-capable adapter.
Google lists a 4,806mAh typical battery for the Pixel, with an advertised runtime exceeding 24 hours. It takes about 30 minutes to reach 50% using a 30W USB-C PPS charger or higher.
Both phones offer magnetic wireless charging at up to 25W, using Apple’s MagSafe and Google’s Pixelsnap systems.
Durability, repairs, and software updates
The Duo and Pixel both carry IP68 ratings for water and dust resistance, but their hinges and inner displays use different construction methods.
Apple uses a titanium enclosure, reinforced hinge, and nano-textured inner display. Its hardware and interface design also help reduce the visibility of the folding screen crease.
The Pixel incorporates a gearless hinge, glass-ceramic outer protection, and composite rear panel. Its redesigned hinge also helps distribute pressure across the inner display when folding.
The companies also have different repair terms and software update commitments. The service fees below require an eligible protection plan purchased separately and are not out-of-warranty repair prices.
- iPhone Duo. Apple’s AppleCare+ service-fee schedule lists a $99 fee for covered inner-screen damage. The device receives iOS and security updates, although Apple has not specified a fixed support period for the model.
- Pixel 11 Pro Fold. Google commits to seven years of Android OS, security, and Pixel Drop updates. Its Pixel Care+ coverage excludes the inner folding screen from the $0 front-screen repair benefit, with a listed $99 service fee for other accidental-damage repairs.
Regardless of their construction, both phones remain vulnerable to damage from pressure or objects trapped between their folded halves.

What the iPhone Duo offers that the Pixel 11 Pro Fold doesn’t
The Duo has several advantages over the Pixel, particularly for handwritten input, video calls, and using the phone as a desk display.
- Apple Pencil compatibility. With iOS 27.2, the Duo works with Apple Pencil (USB-C) for handwriting, drawing, document markup, and Scribble, which converts handwritten input into typed text. Owners can annotate PDFs or sign documents directly on the inner display. Other Apple Pencil models are incompatible.
- Duo FaceTime. Apple’s foldable-specific calling interface uses both displays so someone nearby can participate with their own camera view. Dual Capture is available separately for sharing footage from the front and rear cameras during a call.
- Foldable StandBy. Partially folding the device activates a customizable display featuring clocks, photographs, weather, calendar information, and widgets. Unlike conventional iPhone StandBy, the Duo can enter this mode without a charging connection.
Some of these distinctive functions emerge from how the device changes its physical configuration.
What the Pixel 11 Pro Fold offers that the iPhone Duo doesn’t
The Pixel has its own advantages over the Duo, with additional Android controls and hardware features unavailable on Apple’s foldable.
- Floating app bubbles. Android 17 lets users keep up to five applications accessible through floating bubbles. The Fold’s dedicated bubble bar works alongside split-screen apps, so someone can briefly open another window without closing the document or conversation already onscreen.
- HiLight notifications. Colored LEDs surrounding the camera flash provide visual cues for calls from favorite contacts and Gemini activity while the phone is face down. Owners can assign individual colors to contacts or recognize when Gemini is processing and responding.
- Sign-to-text translation. The Pixel can translate American Sign Language into written English through Gboard and Live Transcribe. Users can prop up the unfolded phone while its camera captures signing, with the translated text appearing on the outer display.
- Physical SIM support. Alongside eSIM functionality, the Pixel retains a nano-SIM slot. Travelers can use compatible local prepaid SIM cards or move an existing physical SIM between devices without depending on eSIM provisioning.
These extra capabilities address different ways people use and access their phones, including needs that a larger screen alone cannot meet.
Should you buy the iPhone Duo or Pixel 11 Pro Fold?
A foldable earns its premium when the inner display improves something you do regularly. Before spending close to $2,000, identify the task your current phone makes difficult: reviewing an attachment while answering an email, comparing documents, or following shared content during a meeting.
Consider the iPhone Duo if your work already centers on Apple devices and iPhone apps. Its specialized layouts and Apple Pencil support may justify the extra cost if they suit your daily tasks. Check your essential apps for the Made for iPhone Duo badge, and confirm that the particular features you need are available. Apple announced Word and Outlook enhancements as forthcoming, so do not base a purchase on those layouts without checking their rollout.
Consider the Pixel 11 Pro Fold if you prefer Android, a narrower folded body, or a dedicated 5x telephoto camera. Its split-screen interface and floating app bubbles also support working across applications. The physical SIM slot adds flexibility for travelers who use compatible local prepaid cards.
Test a complete work task before choosing: open an attachment, review it alongside another app, make changes, and send it back. Repeat the task on the outer screen. Pay attention to typing comfort, readable text, and whether opening or closing the device interrupts your work. A larger screen offers little benefit if the applications you rely on use it poorly.
For a company purchase, check approved-app compatibility, device-management requirements, repair coverage, and replacement arrangements. Include protection-plan premiums and necessary accessories in the budget. The $79 Apple Pencil brings the Duo’s starting hardware cost to $2,078 before tax, compared with $1,899 for the Pixel without additional accessories.
Is Apple’s extra $100 worth it? It may be for someone who will regularly use its Apple-specific functions. The Pixel’s lower starting price is an advantage, but this specifications-based comparison does not establish an overall value winner. Choose the phone that completes your recurring tasks comfortably and fits your existing work setup.
