Novell’s latest Open Source free Linux desktop, openSUSE 11.1

When TechRepublic Cracked Open the Apple iPhone 3G we accidently put a small crack in the glass face. After awhile, the small crack became a big one bisecting the entire screen. The staff looked upon that crack as mark of dishonor and we decided fix it and record the process in a Photo Gallery.

This is the 2009 version of my photo scrap book. This is where I publish photos, diagrams, and other imagery for blogs and articles on TechRepublic.

The lines between feature phones and smartphones continues to blur and with these two new devices from T-Mobile that distinction almost cannot be made. The Samsung Behold supports T-Mobile’s new 3G network and is a full touch screen device with the familiar Samsung TouchWiz user interface. The Motorola ZN5 is a sleek and sturdy device with a very good 5 megapixel digital camera with Xenon flash. These two phones are available now for US$150 and US$100 with two-year plan.

A series of Apple patent filings reveal Apple’s new possible multi-dimensional interface for Mac OS X that could make better use of screen real estate by increasing the number of virtual surfaces capable of housing application and interface elements.

The most extensive of the filings, titled “Multi-Dimensional Desktop,” was submitted to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office back in June of last year. The interface enhancements could be candidates for inclusion in future versions of Mac OS X.

My Hardware 2.0 mailbag is brimming with Windows 7 related questions. The main question on everyone’s lips is the obvious one – How does Windows 7 stack up against Vista?

This test will pitch Windows 7 build 6956 32-bit against Windows Vista RTM 32-bit and Windows Vista SP1 32-bit.

The European Center for Nuclear Research (Cern) released photos of damage to the Large Hadron Collider, the particle accelerator was damaged by a liquid helium leak in September.

This gallery includes beautiful images caught by the Hubble Telescope as well as pictures of the telescope itself. Launched in 1990, the Hubble Telescope has remained one of NASA’s most successful projects, telling us more about the age of the universe, the existence of dark matter and quasars.

Orbiting the earth, Hubble is able to see farther and deeper into the universe than any ground-based telescope.
