Apple’s iPhone 3G arrived on Friday with a bevy of new enterprise-ready features, including Exchange support, business-grade security, and third-party applications powered by an SDK. As with the first iPhone, we waited in line, bought our phone, signed an AT&T contract, and promptly began to crack open the case. Come along as we disassemble the Apple iPhone 3G.

Apple has made available for download iTunes 7.7 ahead of the release of the iPhone 3G and the iPhone 2.0/iPod touch 2.9 software update, due tomorrow. So what’s new here?

Nokia created the Eseries devices to appeal to the enterprise/business user and has both QWERTY and standard phone form factor devices. The QWERTY devices have evolved from the chunky and wide E61 to the slimmer E61i and now to the even slimmer Nokia E71. The E71 is almost exactly the same size as the iPhone with a focus on messaging and creation, rather than media consumption. It is an extremely classy, well constructed, and beautiful device that may appeal to those outside the enterprise market.

The IBM PC Jr. is an important artifact in the history of the modern personal computer. The PC Jr. was IBM’s attempt to enter the SOHO market. In 1983, the largest computer company in the world was looking to tap a fast growing segment that it had not foreseen as even existing just a few years before. By most objective accounts it failed.

The Samsung Blackjack II has been out for a few months, but will soon be getting an upgrade to Windows Mobile 6.1. I had a chance to use this cool device with the latest operating system and find it to be a very solid and responsive Smartphone.

OK, so over the past few months I’ve grown from being a Linux skeptic into being quite a Linux fan. I’ve still got lots to learn but it’s great having the ability to roll out a no-cost OS onto systems that don’t need to have Windows on them (I understand that not everyone reading this will need Linux, but I do …). That said, there are a few aspects of Linux that do annoy/frustrate/anger me/make me hulk out* (delete as overall mood dictates), and one of these aspects is so core to an OS that I’m surprised that it hasn’t been addressed already.
